Each One Knit One
I have been working on this project from the year 2018. Through "Each One Knit One," my mission is to revive the art of knitting while promoting unity and well-being across socioeconomic strata. I aim towards knitting a brighter future, one stitch at a time. Through the therapeutic and harmonising effects of knitting, I hope to bring people together from diverse backgrounds, transcending barriers of language, caste, creed, and religion.
I believe that knitting has the power to not only improve fine motor skills, concentration levels, and creativity, but also act as a stress buster and be beneficial to mental health. By challenging gender stereotypes, I hope to create an inclusive environment where boys and girls can come together to explore the joy of this art form. I have started this project in my school, the Shri Ram School, Moulsari, and it was truly a joy to see both boys and girls come together to do something that is generally labelled a ‘feminine’ activity.
The process involves inviting participants from across the country to knit or crochet squares, which will be stitched together to create "Blankets of Unity." These blankets put together with diverse squares serve as tangible representations of our collective unity-in-diversity as a nation. In the initial years, I donated all the blankets put together to children under flyovers. This year, through exhibitions and auctions of not just these blankets but also pieces of art created by the student community, we will raise funds, with 100% of the proceeds allocated to support an NGO dedicated to promoting education and gender equality. Together, we can make a positive impact on individuals' well-being, foster social connections, and contribute to a more inclusive society
